Timeshare questions

Question:

Hope someone here can help me

We went to our first Timeshare session the other day, and it was interesting. They are a member of the RCI group,. and you get points to spend over the year Your place is worth so many points, and the places you stay are worth so many. Peak season is more points, slower times are less points. Blah blah blah

Has anyone here been involed with them? They state that they are part of
3700 resorts in 93 countries, so i figured that here would be a good place to look. We did manage to get away from the session without buying, as we will not commit to anything until we have researched it as thoroughly as we can. But we were quite interested, as we enjoy travelling as much as possible.

Anyways, if you have had any experience with these guys, or something similar, please email me or reply here.

Answer:

I'm sure you'll get many negative responses, but we have owned a T/S and been a member of RCI for over 10 years. Lots of info about it but just to summarize:

It is not an "investment". You will average spending $65-100 per night for it whether you use it or not. It requires a good deal of planning ahead. If you think seriously about buying one, look into resales. There are lots of them and almost all open to bids. That indicates to me that a lot of people buy them that do so based on sales pressure.

Now the good parts. If you like to stay in luxury and comfort then it is perfect. There are some very plush ones. RCI has a lot of options to trade. We've done it many times, in fact going for a week on 2/22, another week down by Carmel CA at the end of April, then a month in Hawaii next year. We like it obviously. It is nice to be able to walk in a place, pick up a key, stay for a week in fully equipted condo then drop the key off again and walk away without any money changing hands.

Let me know if I can tell you more. You will hear you can stay in a nice hotel for less and that is basically true, but there is a world of difference between the two options.
