what really happens with a 'free' timeshare vacation?

Question:

So this episode, minus the groovy '80's references, was a probable excellent approximation of what really happens when one goes on those FREE VACATIONS!! offered by timeshare conglomerates.

Has anyone ever actually been on one of these vacations?

And how bad was the experience?

Answer:

I have no idea. I've gotten offers in the mail for them several times but always roundfile them. I'll have to ask a buddy of mine--he & his wife bought into a timeshare in Breckenridge. Another friend lives there year round. Summit County is pretty neat, not quite as rustic as nearby Park County.
My family was taking a weekend in Myrtle Beach (out of our own pocket, fortunately) about ten years ago. My mom and dad heard about how this one timeshare corp would give you a few hundred bucks just for listening to their spiel. They went. The guy was (as far as I could tell) much less pressuring, and the place was kinda nice, but my folks decided (five seconds after they heard about the "money for presentation" deal, no doubt) that it wasn't for us. The company gave us a check anyway and we haven't heard from them since.
