Timeshare Now
|
Question: My husband and I received a 2nd honeymoon trip from our relatives this
past May and plan to use in in January 2004. Sounds great right?
WRONG! My father in law purchase a timeshare (Epic Resorts...can you
say S.C.A.M) about 4 years ago and only 1 person in the family has
ever booked a trip through them (it took 14 months to do it). Well my
brother-in-law and his wife went to Virginia for there honeymoon and
it was HORRIBLE! The hotel was a dump with constant construction going
on all day & night and it stunk like sewer. Anyway, my in-laws now
INSIST we use there timeshare and stay at the Epic Resort in Vegas
when we take our trip in January. Granted, I looked on the net and
have seen pic's of the resort and it doesn't look too bad. However I
have done some reading on the net about Epic and have seen nothing but
BAD about the company itself and how they scammed thousands of people
out of there money.
Regardless, has ANYONE ever seen or stayed at the Epic Desert Paradise
Resort? From what I understand it's about 2-3 miles off the Strip.
Another reason we REALLY don't want to stay there. It's our FIRST trip
to Vegas and I've heard that the strip is the ONLY way to go. Also,
are Taxi cabs outrageous should we stay OFF the strip? What about
parking fee's?
If we don't take this timeshare it's going to cause a HUGE family war
that I could care less about, however it's my husbands family and he
isn't quite the "boat rocker" that I am
Thanks for any help!
Answer: If money is not a major consideration, book an inexpensive room on the strip (Flamingo, Harrahs, Ballys, I.P., etc). Check into the timeshare but stay
at the strip hotel. Nobody will know you did not stay at the timeshare. You
can keep peace in the family but still enjoy Vegas. If money is a concern,
use the timeshare but rent a car. Don't consider staying that far off the
strip and relying on taxis. It will be much more expensive than a rental
car.
The important thing is to plan your trip well and enjoy yourselves. Tell
the family what they want to hear. I'm not familiar with the Epic resort. But in general, since it's
your first visit you should stay at one of the newer strip hotels. I
recommend MGM, Luxor, Monte Carlo, or NYNY. These are all nice hotels
built 5-10 years ago, and there is plenty to see in the immediate area (these four hotels plus the Excalibur and Mandalay Bay are within
walking distance of each other). Cabs are also plentiful to go
elsewhere. I suspect you'd have to call for a cab at the Epic resort.
If you are forced to use the timeshare now, I recommend that you rent
a car. It will give you more freedom, and probably be cheaper than
taking taxis everywhere.
