St Thomas and Can cun Timeshare Rentals

Question:

I am planning a rental of timeshare vacation . Our original plans were to go to St. Thomas. After checking into prices for this time, which is high season, we have discovered that just for hotel and air we will be in excess of $3,000, probably with food and side trips we're talking around
$5,000-$6,000. We feel that if we are paying that much we need to check out other locations such as Cancun or anything else in the Caribean. We were on a cruise in July so this does not appeal to us right now. Cancun is much cheaper, but that worries us. We are in our early 40's looking for great beaches, good restaurants, water related sports, something quiet, romantic, and really special. I would greatly appreciate any responses. Hawaii is another possibility but the 8 hour flight makes it less appealing. We have been to Mau(about 6 years ago), and were in Cozumel and St. Thomas on a cruise just for the day.Should I choose St. Thomas or Cancun? Help

Answer:

There are some good resorts on St. Thomas, they just are away from the city. Cost I find kind of inflated. Even taking high season into account. In Miami there are always packages advertised for 4-7 days, none of them over a thousand ppdo. This goes for all the islands, and includes air.
(American Airlines is the main one.) I don't know where you're located, but just add the round trip fare to Miami to figure out your cost. Unless of course you're looking for a deluxe location. In which case you would pay that much no matter where you go. Aruba would definitely fit your bill (great watersports), but it is expensive, and a three hour flight from Miami, in addition to your flight time to Miami. If you are interested in St. Thomas, e-mail me. A co-worker of mine stayed there on a resort for her honeymoon (2nd marriage--she's about your age) and had rave reviews for the resort. I will be glad to get the name and approximate cost for you.
