Interval International - TimeShare

Question:

My wife and I (looking for a way to kill an afternoon) sat through a sales pitch for a time share resort in the Poconos (Pennsylvania). Overall the place wasn't very nice, but it seems that all one needs to do is buy a timeshare at this resort, then "exchange" it for time at participating resorts all over the world (for a small fee). Overall it seems legit, but for
$5,000 to $7,000, I want to be sure. Does anyone have any experience with timeshares in general (positive or negative)? Does anyone have any experience with the time share company < Interval International? We liked the concept, but need clarification about the details

Answer:

If you're going to buy a timeshare, buy one on the resale market. Over
50% of the original price of a timeshare is for marketing purposes. There are literally thousands of them on the resale market that folks can't get rid of for half the price they paid. Start checking the web for timeshare resales. We bought ours for $3000, and it sold new for over $10,000. We have all the same benefits of those that paid full price. We've had ours for 3 years, and since we're willing to travel in off-season, have been able to trade for Myrtle Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
