How To Sell A Timeshare
|
Question: Does anyone have any information on how to sell a timeshare week? We
bought two weeks in the Cayman Islands (Grand Cayman) at Plantation
Village, and have found over the past two years that we can only use
one. The resort (Plantation Village) will try to sell them for us, but
wants a 40% commission! They're both in high season (1st weeks of July
and November), but beyond advertising them in our local paper, I have
no idea of how to go about publicizing them. They include membership
in Interval International, but we already have three weeks built up
in deposits, and don't know when we'll find the time to use them. Any
suggestions or sources would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: If you can get 60% of what you paid for a time share TAKE IT!
The resale value is close to nothing. I can get all I want for 10 cents
on the dollar. If you look at the ratio between the cost of 52 weeks of
a time share and a condo, you will see what is going on. There is a company out there that specialises in travel for individuals.
The idea is to cut out the supplements and penalties that can be charged
to those travelling alone as opposed to couples. There is a USD$25 annual
membership in order to participate in Single World cruises and trips.
The idea is to pair up single travellers as roommates, although single
accomodations can be had on many tours as well.
Singleworld can be contacted at 401 Theodore Fremd Ave, NYC, 10580. They
should also have an 800 number which can be found out from Directory
Assistance (may be dialable from USA only).
One of the strange things about the catalog is that many of the pictures
are of couples, something of an anomaly for a company that caters to
single travellers.
I am not connected in any way shape or form with this company, other than
receiving a recent catalogue in the mail from them.
