Timeshare experiences near Disney? In Dec?

Question: We wouldn't normally consider renting a timeshare as we prefer to be on
property, but a family member has a banked week they can't use so we thought
we might use the opportunity to squeeze some extra time in at WDW this year.
We really don't know much about the timeshare options other than what they
tell us on the timeshare web site. Has anyone else rented a non-Disney
timeshare? If so, can you recommend any near Disney? Are there any we
should steer clear of?
Also, we were thinking of some time after Thanksgiving but before Christmas
so we can still see WDW at the holidays. How crowded is this time at the
parks? When are the Christmas decorations up? When are they taken down?

Answer: The Vistana is a fantastic timeshare - stayed there twice. If you
have a large number of people the Embassy is good. Don't bother with
Fairfield. We're staying at Orange Lake in Dec and I hear its one of
the best. If your family member goes through RCI any Gold Crown
usually will do. Email me if you have additional questions - we are
old hands at this timeshare thing (although we will be staying at AKL
for part of Thanksgiving week - yeah!)
