Questions about Disney Vacations Timeshare

Question:

My family and I are very interested in buying a DVC. We visit Disney World every year and stay in a timeshare right outside park property, but we really want to stay inside the park.

I have two questions. One, how difficult is it to trade into another resort. I know you can reserve up to 7 months in advance when you do not want to stay in your home resort, but I want to know how hard will it be to get into the Beach Club?

Two, are there any downsides to buying at a legitimate DVC resale website?

Answer:

I have been a member for going on 4 years. We 1st bought a used membership at Old Key West, later Saratoga Springs, and finally Boardwalk. In my experience Beach Club is hardest to reserve if you don't own points there. Do you mind my asking why there? If you own points at a particular resort you can reserve 11 months in advance. If your plans change later and you have to change dates you can go on a wait list at any DVC. Much of the year you can get into the property you want if you book several months ahead.

What do you mean by legitimate? You can often buy points at DVC's that are closed through Disney. They have right of 1st refusal. They are notified of any pending offer and given the opportunity to buy the points at the same price. Therefore, they may well end up selling the same points, for some profit, more than once. When I bought into Boardwalk the contract was about 35 years rather than the 50 at SS and the cost was $10 cheaper. BTW, if you're interested in buying through Disney I have a salesman I can recommend
